Buy Amoxicillin: A Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic With Numerous Uses

What is Amoxicillin

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic medicine that treats a wide variety of diseases caused by bacteria, including sinus infections, strep throat, pneumonia, skin infections, middle-ear infections, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is often used in conjunction with clavulanate potassium to prevent certain bacteria from becoming antibiotic-resistant.

Amoxicillin treatment may cause side effects that include nausea and rash. The medication is commonly taken by mouth and less frequently by injection. Available as a generic medication, Amoxicillin is one of the most frequently prescribed antibiotics, and is on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) List of Essential Medicines.

What is Amoxicillin?

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic medication used to treat infections caused by bacteria and other microorganisms. Antibiotics work by killing all microorganisms and preventing them from growing, including beneficial bacteria.

Amoxicillin is part of the beta-lactam antibiotic family. Beta-lactam antibiotics contain a beta-lactam ring in their chemical compositions. Other drugs in this group include derivatives of penicillin, monobactams,  cephalosporins, cephamycins, carbacephems, and carbapenems.

Amoxicillin History

Amoxicillin was first discovered in 1958 in an effort to find derivatives of penicillin that could treat a broader range of infectious diseases. The drug was initially approved for medical use in the United States in 1974, and subsequently in the United Kingdom in 1977.

As of 2020, Amoxicillin is the 40th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States with over 15 million prescriptions.

Amoxicillin Uses

Amoxicillin is commonly used to treat infections that include:

  • Urinary tract infections
  • Acute otitis media
  • Skin infections
  • Streptococcal pharyngitis
  • Pneumonia
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Lyme disease
  • Salmonella infections
  • Chlamydia infections

Urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) result from bacteria that cause inflammation of the urinary tract. Amoxicillin is typically not advised for the treatment of UTIs due to antibiotic resistance. Instead, the combined use of amoxicillin-clavulanate is recommended to increase effectiveness.

Acute Otitis Media

Acute otitis media is an ear infection that occurs when the middle ear area behind the eardrum becomes infected and inflamed. Amoxicillin is typically prescribed to treat acute otitis media in children younger than two years old.

Respiratory Infections

According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, Amoxicillin is the preferred treatment for adult pneumonia. In addition, The World Health Organization also recommends amoxicillin for pneumonia that is not “severe”. Further, Amoxicillin is prescribed to prevent disease progression resulting from exposure to anthrax

Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori)

  1. pylori (Helicobacter pylori) is a type of bacteria that can infect the stomach or duodenum. Amoxicillin is commonly prescribed as part of multi-drug treatment for stomach infections caused by H. pylori.

Lyme Borreliosis

Lyme borreliosis, also known as Lyme disease, is widely believed to be a vector-borne disease caused by the Borrelia bacterium. It is commonly thought that Lyme disease is spread by ticks in the genus Ixodes.

Amoxicillin is prescribed to treat early-stage Lyme disease with effectiveness similar to common alternatively-used antibiotics.

Skin Infections

Amoxicillin is occasionally prescribed to treat skin infections such as acne vulgaris, specifically cases that have not responded adequately to antibiotics such as minocycline and doxycycline.

Amoxicillin Dosage

Amoxicillin dosage varies considerably between patients. The amount depends on the drug’s strength, body weight, medical problem, and other factors.
